Meteorologists warn of storms accompanied by strong winds, hail up to six centimeters in size, tornadoes and heavy rainfall that can cause flooding.

As stated in the forecast on the Severe weather website, the cyclone created by the former hurricane Erin has developed a deep high-altitude valley over Western Europe, which is gradually moving towards the central and southern parts of the continent. This created the conditions for a multi-day wave of strong instability.

"Strong storms will bring strong winds, large to very large hail, tornadoes, but above all intense and heavy rainfall that can cause flooding," it said.

Which areas will the storm affect?

Starting today, August 28, through Saturday, August 30, multiple waves of severe storms are forecast to affect:

Northeast Spain

Southern France

Switzerland

Northern and Central Italy

Alpine region

Adriatic area

North and West of the Balkan Peninsula

"Strong storms are expected across northern Italy and southern Switzerland, with recurring cells that will bring heavy rainfall and the risk of flash floods. Therefore, high (HIGH) and moderate (MDT) level risks have been issued for the northern Mediterranean and the Alpine region, with clearly marked zones where the most dangerous storms will develop. The warning also applies to strong winds, tornadoes and very large hail," they warn.

Supercell storms are also possible

Meteorologists especially warn of the possibility of the formation of supercell storms in the northern parts of the Italian Padova plain, especially in Lombardy and Veneto, where favorable conditions for the appearance of tornadoes are also expected. Along the coasts of the Ligurian Sea, the development of mesoscale storm systems with dangerous flash floods and tornadoes may occur.

"As the high wave moves slowly, the storms will group into larger systems during the day and move further to the northeast, across the Alpine region and northern Italy towards Slovenia and northwestern Croatia. Activity will continue in the evening and night hours," they conclude.

Showers and thunder in Serbia only on Saturday

According to the RHMZ forecast, today and tomorrow, August 28 and 29, will be sunny and very warm with maximum temperatures today up to 36 degrees, and on Friday up to 38 degrees in most places, except in Negotinska Krajina where the highest daily temperature will be around 33.

"It will also be windy in the Košava region with moderate and strong south and southeast winds, which will also have storm-force gusts in Banat and the lower Danube region," they announce.

On Saturday, August 30, a passing cloud with rain, showers and thunderstorms will arrive in Serbia, with a drop in temperature and a moderate to strong westerly and north-westerly wind.

"On Sunday, August 31, it will be partly cloudy and dry in the north, and in other parts with rain, with a gradual cessation of precipitation and clearing during the day," they add.

On Monday and Tuesday, September 1 and 2, mostly sunny, while on Tuesday, in the second part of the day in the north, west and central, and on Wednesday, September 3 and in other regions, new passing clouds with rain and local showers with thunder, RHMZ concludes.
