Israeli special forces in front of the Red Cross kidnapped head of a hospital in Gaza and killed a journalist
Israeli special forces kidnapped Dr. Marwan al-Hams, director of Abu Yousef al-Najjar Hospital and spokesman for the Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza, in front of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in the southern part of the enclave.
The Palestinian Health Ministry said Monday that Hamas, which also oversees field hospitals in the Gaza Strip, was en route to the ICRC in northern Rafah when masked Israeli soldiers opened fire, killing one person and wounding another civilian, before capturing him.
The person killed was a local journalist who was conducting an interview with al-Hams at the time of the attack.
"This cowardly act is aimed at one of the most prominent humanitarian and medical voices who conveyed to the world the pain of starving children, the suffering of wounded patients deprived of medicine and the cries of mothers at the hospital doors. It clearly reflects the intention to silence the truth and cover up the suffering of an entire people who are going through one of the worst health and humanitarian disasters," the Palestinian ministry said.
The spokesman of the ICRC said that they received and treated patients wounded in the incident and that they were "very concerned about the security" around the field hospital.
The UN Palestine Refugee Agency (UNRWA), meanwhile, accused Israel of "starving civilians", including a million children in Gaza, by blocking the delivery of vital food and medicine to the besieged enclave.
UNRWA issued a warning on Sunday, calling on Israel to lift the blockade and allow the free flow of humanitarian aid.

At militarized distribution points run by the US-Israeli-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), Palestinian civilians trying to get food are killed by the Israeli army.
Since the establishment of the GHF in late May, nearly 900 people have been killed, according to Palestinian health authorities.
