Microsoft lays off more than 9,000 people: The gaming department is suffering the worst
Microsoft has announced that it plans to lay off about 9,100 employees, or about four percent of the total workforce.
The gaming division will suffer the hardest blow, whose director Phil Spencer said in a message to the team that the layoffs are necessary to increase agility and efficiency, the Seattle Times reports.
"We are making tough decisions today to ensure success for years to come," Spencer said.
Microsoft is recording good results in the gaming department, but management says that selective investment is key to long-term sustainability, the Verge portal reports.
The dismissed employee will receive severance pay, health insurance and support in finding a new job, the statement added.
The company previously laid off more than 6,000 employees in May and June. In June 2024, Microsoft employed approximately 228,000 people globally.
