Trump rejects the truce
US President Donald Trump has said he does not want a truce with Iran but is aiming for the "real end" of the Iranian nuclear issue, he told reporters during his overnight return to Washington after an early departure from the G7 summit in Canada.

"I didn't say I was asking for a truce," Trump said, according to CBS News.
He added that "the real end" means "total abandonment" of nuclear weapons. Asked if he would send US Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff or Vice President JD Vance to Iran talks, Trump said: "Maybe I will. It depends on what happens when I get back."
He claims Iran is "very close to having" nuclear weapons, dismissing testimony from Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard in March that she said Iran was not developing nuclear weapons.
The president warned Iran not to attack US troops, saying he would "respond strongly if they do anything to our people".
Trump said that Israel will continue to attack Iran.
"You'll see in the next two days. You'll see. Nobody has slowed down so far," he said, according to a CBS report.
He added that he hoped Iran's nuclear program would be "destroyed long before" the US would have to intervene directly.
Trump also said that his call to the residents of Tehran to evacuate was motivated by the desire to keep people safe.
