The Kremlin is betting that it won't, writes CNN.

The American president's frustration (he called Putin crazy) was explained by Moscow as a symptom of "emotional overload".

As Jutarnji List reports on CNN's analysis, it now appears that the more intense Russian attacks on Ukrainian civilians are actually a deliberate Russian test for Trump - as they are occurring just seven days after his phone conversation with Putin.

As it goes on, there are two paths Trump can take, assuming he is willing to leave the uncomfortable position Putin keeps pushing him into.

According to CNN, he could have introduced new sanctions against Russia, which he previously claimed would hinder diplomacy.

On Sunday, he confirmed to reporters that it is something that is "absolutely under consideration."

What else can he do?

Trump could also ask Congress to authorize new shipments of arms and ammunition to Ukraine. However, this option would mean a huge U-turn that would be politically embarrassing, since Trump's opposition to spending billions of dollars in Ukraine is the basis of his election campaign and second presidency.

And that would mean the president accepting that, as has been the case with many of his recent predecessors, his belief that he can manage Putin is completely wrong.

There is another possibility - and it is one that Ukraine and its European allies fear terribly.

Trump, in fact, could raise the anchor and determine that neither side wants peace. That would mark the time for the US to withdraw.

Russia would then continue with a war of attrition and attacks on civilians, while seizing territories in a catastrophic scenario for European security, according to CNN.

In this regard, Trump's announcement on his social network "Truth Social" on Monday is highly indicative, but also disturbing for European allies.

"This is a war that would never have started if I were president. This is the war of Zelensky, Putin and Biden, not Trump's," the US president wrote.
