The West is falling apart: "Putin knows everything"

The quarrel between Volodymyr Zelenskiy and US leader Donald Trump showed how difficult it will be to resolve the situation in Ukraine, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.

"The Kyiv regime and Zelensky do not want peace, they want the war to continue. Therefore, in this situation, of course, Washington's efforts and Moscow's willingness to solve the problem will obviously not be enough," said the press secretary.

According to his words, it is now seen how "the collective West has partially begun to lose its collectivity".

"There remain groups of countries that make up the war party. They don't say that we have to move to peaceful conditions as soon as possible," added Peskov.

Speaking about Russian President Vladimir Putin's reaction to the conflict, Peskov noted that the president is aware of the essence of what happened and has taken it into account.

"He knows all the nuances. An unprecedented event. Of course, Zelensky has shown a complete lack of diplomatic skills in many ways," Peskov added.

The president's press secretary called the situation difficult to resolve. Volodymyr Zelensky's unwillingness to cede territory is connected with his unwillingness to accept the reality on the ground, he added.

Peskov pointed out that Moscow continues the dialogue with Washington with the aim of normalizing bilateral relations and creating conditions for the normal functioning of diplomatic missions.

"There were no contacts between Putin and Trump that should be made public. Russia continues a special military operation to achieve its goals," Peskov said.

He assessed that Zelensky's unwillingness to cede the territory under Russian control is connected with his unwillingness to "accept the real state of affairs".

Answering the question whether the Kremlin allows the possibility of European countries playing a positive role in resolving the conflict in Ukraine, Peskov stated that all constructive initiatives are "welcome".

As he noted, the situation regarding the solution in Ukraine "is not simple".

"Someone has to make Zelensky want peace. If the Europeans can do that, kudos," said Peskov.

Commenting on the informal peace summit of a number of European countries held on Sunday in London, Peskov pointed out that an increase in the level of financing Ukraine from Europe is necessary for the continuation of military operations, not for a peace plan.

"There were also statements about the need to urgently provide an increased level of funding for Ukraine. This is obviously not for a peace plan, but probably for the continuation of military operations. This is how we understand it. And everything else will depend on what peace plans will be drawn up and which peace plans will be submitted for discussion," said Putin's spokesman.

Nothing should hinder the peace negotiations on Ukraine, he pointed out and warned that there is a "war party" in the West that wants the conflict in Ukraine to continue.

"There remains a group of countries that make up the 'war party', which express their willingness to continue supporting Ukraine in terms of supporting the war and ensuring the continuation of military operations," said Peskov. He also warned that attempts to seize frozen Russian assets would have serious legal consequences.

"In fact, such actions cannot remain without consequences. This is very serious. And, of course, we perceive it exclusively as an illegal intention and if there are attempts to implement it, those attempts will have very serious legal consequences," said Peskov, commenting on the proposal of Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk that Russian funds should not be frozen, but that they should be seized and used for the reconstruction of Ukraine.
