Egypt rejects the proposal to displace the Palestinians
Egypt announced today that it rejects proposals on the displacement of Palestinians because it does not want to "end the Palestinian movement".
As announced by the Presidency of Egypt, the proposals are rejected because they want to avoid jeopardizing the national security of the countries in the region, reports Reuters.
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi called on the international community last week to adopt a plan to rebuild war-torn Gaza without displacing Palestinians, after US President Donald Trump angered Arabs with his vision for the enclave.
Trump previously proposed that the US take over the Gaza Strip and turn it into the "Riviera of the Middle East" after the Palestinian residents move out, and at the same time called on Jordan and Egypt to take them in.
Those two countries rejected Trump's proposal, as did other Arab states, saying they would work on an alternative solution as a counterweight to Trump's idea.
