Slovenia without Luka Dončić: "My daughters are my priority"

Luka Dončić played brilliantly for the Los Angeles Lakers until he suffered an injury in the closing stages of the season, which kept him off the court throughout the playoffs, where they were eliminated by Oklahoma City 4–0.

The outstanding basketball player will now be able to recover in peace, but despite that, we will not see him in the Slovenian national team jersey this summer.

The reason is not the injury itself, and he explained his decision on Instagram.

“I love my daughters more than anything, they are always my top priority in life. While I am fighting for joint custody of my daughters, I was forced to make a difficult decision between traveling and playing for the Slovenian national team and spending time with my daughters this summer. Unfortunately, it has been extremely difficult to see them over the past eight months,” Dončić wrote.

“I have given everything to represent Slovenia and I am disappointed that I will not be able to play for my country this summer. But at this moment, my daughters and my responsibility as a father are my priorities.”

In the next qualifying window for the World Cup, Slovenia will play away against Estonia on July 3, and host Sweden three days later.
