Standing across the net from him will be Germany’s Jan-Lennard Struff, who will be looking to end the Serbian tennis star’s remarkable winning streak in their head-to-head encounters.

Their match is scheduled to begin at around 6 p.m.

Djokovic secured his place in the next round after a hard-fought victory over France’s Ugo Humbert, winning 4–6, 6–3, 6–4.

The match lasted two hours and 29 minutes. After losing the first set, Novak managed to find his rhythm and turn the match around.

Struff, meanwhile, defeated his compatriot Yannick Hanfmann 6–4, 6–3 to continue his impressive run of form.

The German has won five of his last six matches and reached the final in Brussels last week, his first ATP Tour final since 2024.

The statistics are firmly in the Serbian star’s favour.

Djokovic has won all eight of his previous encounters with Struff, meaning the German will face a tough challenge if he hopes to cause an upset in Basel.

Their most recent meeting came in the fourth round of the 2025 US Open, where Djokovic won 6–3, 6–3, 6–2.

However, Struff’s recent form could give him an extra boost of confidence heading into the match.

Last week in Brussels, Struff also defeated top seed Arthur Fils, showing that he can be a tricky opponent when he finds his rhythm.

Djokovic, meanwhile, will be looking to extend his winning run and strengthen his position in the race to qualify for the ATP Finals in Turin.

He is currently 11th in the ATP Race, and every additional victory could prove crucial in his bid to secure a place among the top players.

Djokovic won the ATP 500 tournament in Beijing earlier this year and is competing in Basel for the first time since 2011.

Interestingly, he won the title on his tournament debut in 2009.

If he beats Struff again, Djokovic will face Portugal’s Nuno Borges, who upset Casper Ruud, coming from a set down to win 1–6, 6–3, 6–4.
