Freezing day ahead: Snowfall may reach 30 cm
A strong thunderstorm system with heavy downpours will hit the southwestern parts of Serbia, bringing intense rainfall accompanied by thunder. According to forecasts, up to 30 centimeters of new snow is expected to fall.
In many parts of the region, floods have already been reported, and heavy showers are expected during the night and throughout today. Afterwards, the northern and central regions of Serbia will experience a sudden cold snap accompanied by heavy snowfall.
Thunderstorms and heavy rain are also expected on the Pešter Plateau and in Metohija, where there is an increased risk of flooding and flash floods. Floods have already been reported across Kosovo and Metohija, with numerous settlements underwater.
A state of emergency has also been declared in areas along the Lim and Drina rivers, which are threatened due to extremely heavy rainfall in recent days in Montenegro and Herzegovina.
In other parts of Serbia, freezing rain and snow are expected, while in the southern regions and mountains of southern Serbia, rain will fall up to around 2,000 meters above sea level.
Today, most of the country can expect a snowstorm and an icy day, with temperatures ranging from –4°C to 0°C. Up to 30 centimeters of new snow is forecast.
Warmer weather will remain briefly in the south and southeast of Serbia, where it will be rainy with temperatures up to 10°C, but by the end of the day, a cold snap is expected even in these areas, with rain turning into snow. Up to 30–40 liters of rain per square meter are forecast, with a risk of new floods and flash floods.
