Vučić after his magnificent speech at the UN: I tried to tell the truth, I invited Trump to come to Serbia
The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, speaks from New York after his speech at the United Nations General Assembly.
"In the presentation that I made on behalf of the Serbian delegation, I am grateful to the team that worked on it. I tried to point out the great dangers, to tell the truth bravely, to not create new enemies for Serbia. To preserve stability and peace in our region as well, because it is not going very well in other parts of the world," said the president after his magnificent speech at the UN.
As he added, it is clear that more meetings and talks await us tomorrow.
"It is clear that we have a lot of problems in the near future, I believe that tomorrow we will be able to talk more about it. I will tell you about a few things from the conversation with Secretary Rubio, but I will talk about the upcoming meetings, now right after I finish giving these statements I will have a meeting with Finnish President Alex Stubb, then with Georgian President Mikhail Kavelashvili, then with the Secretary General of the Council of Europe Mr. Alain Berset, and then we have an extremely important meeting, I can't speak loudly, I'm tired, that's why you put the microphones, so that you can hear me, don't be angry", said the president.
He emphasized that he invited President Trump to visit Serbia.
"Tonight there is a meeting, one of our delegation, and mine with Antonio Costa, and then I believe that he will also meet with the most important deputy prime ministers, ministers of foreign affairs of Great Britain, Germany and so on. Tomorrow, we all have dozens of meetings, I can no longer grasp or remember everything, to be completely honest. But we will manage to do all that. What was important in the conversation with Secretary Rubio, I would say that the tone was friendly, the conversation was honest, open, extremely meaningful. I invited President Trump officially through the State Department and the NSC to visit Serbia," the president said.
"Everyone is getting into their trenches"
He pointed out that no one came to hear anyone, but that everyone goes into their trenches, but that it is important that everyone's voice be heard.
"We had a good conversation with Rubio. And now when you see everything that Donald Trump said yesterday and what Ursula von der Leyen said after him, it remains for us to see what we are going to do and how to do at the same time, not wanting to lose partnership and friendship with countries with which we have always been traditional friends. In any case, we have a lot of talks, I don't think the world is going in a good direction because no one came to hear anyone, no one really came to listen to anyone, everyone is getting into their trenches. I notice it, I say this as someone from the side, as the president of a small country which is certainly neither in the center of attention nor in the center of events, but which is certainly affected by all these events and is affected in a difficult way. Even what Ursula von der Leyen said from January 1, 2027, there won't be possible to import gas. No matter how much gas we import from Azerbaijan, listen people, whatever we do, we must thrive to survive," the president pointed out.
A conversation with Kaja Kallas is expected tomorrow, and as he points out, it will not be a simple conversation.
"I am proud of the fact that even today we presented the principles from the charter of the United Nations, the United Nations as inviolable, as something that Serbia adheres to and that no one can find faults with Serbia, in contrast to the fact that we can to almost everyone in different situations. I am proud of a small, free, for us the most important country in the world and that's it," emphasized Vučić.
Minister of Foreign Affairs Marko Djurić added that Vjosa Osmani came to the session illegitimately, which is why a note was sent to the United Nations.
"I have to say that it will not be easy for us because everyone will press from different sides, because everyone wants to make a decision and see where their trenches are, and we will not go into the trenches. We want to save our people and our country and we will not go into the trenches, conflicts, wars. Unfortunately, we were champions in the number of wars we had during the 20th century. In the First World War we lost 28 percent of the population, in the Second World War, we lost a million Serbs," said Djurić.
