Infrastructure Minister Milutin Mrkonjic has nothing to apologize for, says Serbian parliament Speaker Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic. After Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS) leader Ivica Dacic had aplogized to citizens for the 90s, Mrkonjic said he had nothing to apologize for. Infrastructure minister "has nothing to apologize for" “Mrkonjic is everything but a politician. He is a builder, a great and good soul. He does not know how to hate. You will never hear him say that anyone is wrong,” the Serbian parliament speaker stressed. She said that Dacic had apologized for a difficult situation that an ordinary human went through. “He did not apologize for himself but for the time. Mrkonjic was a builder then and he is now, he has no reason to apologize,” Djukic-Dejanovic stressed. She added that SPS as a party had no right to repeat what had happened before. “We cannot run away from the fact that there was media darkness, political murders started happening when we were in power, though they did not stop afterward,” the SPS official explained. She added that the Socialists had never renounced their past but that they had changed. “It was not possible to form the government without SPS. That way we assumed a higher level of social responsibility and it is easier to criticize than to work and learn from your own mistakes. We did not hesitate to say that we are not some new ones, we have realized our mistakes and we are ready to correct them,” Djukic-Dejanovic pointed out. She is convinced that her party will significantly influence the future government, noting that the ruling majority has in the past four years been stable. The parliament speaker says parliament is functioning well and that it has succeeded in passing a large number of bills. “We have had the parliamentary majority the whole time, we only did not manage to vote in one bill, the law on railways. That cannot be hidden and it should not be hidden,” the parliament speaker underscored. “Everybody is making a great effort to maintain the majority,” she added. “We have a fragile majority, but a majority is a majority. Is it hard to create a majority in every moment and regarding every law? Yes it is,” Djukic-Dejanovic said. She added that she believed that a threshold for parliament should not be raised because it would jeopardize citizens’ right to have their representatives in parliament. Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic (Tanjug) “SPS-DS cooperation best solution for citizens” The parliament speaker has said that SPS’ cooperation with the Democratic Party (DS) is the best for the citizens and Serbia. “I was sure of it much earlier when we once had an opportunity to cooperate with the DS. That was my position since our programs are realistically similar. A united social democratic option can facilitate difficulties that an average person has in difficult circumstances,” Djukic-Dejanovic pointed out. She added that Serbian President and DS leader Boris Tadic’s “personal characterisrics“, as well as characteristics of other Democrats she cooperated with, gave her the right to believe that this option would be the best for Serbia in the upcoming period.
