U.S. Open: Janković, Ivanović in 2nd round

Jelena Jankovic and Ana Ivanovic advanced to the U.S. Open second round on Monday with straight-set victories. Third seed Jankovic, 2006 U.S. Open semi-finalist, nagged by a second-set problem with her left shoe, won her 68th match of the year - a women's best - but needed seven match points to finally subdue Slovakian Jarmila Gajdosova 6-2, 7-6 (7/2) after 80 minutes.
