Parliament adopts public property law

The Serbian parliament passed Monday the Law on Public Property, after several years of waiting. The law was adopted with 133 votes coming from the ruling majority parties and the Liberal-Democratic Party (LDP). Parliament adopts public property law Alliance of Vojvodina Hungarians MPs did not support the law, being dissatisfied with the fact that the province did not get part of the railway infrastructure, whereas the League of Social Democrats of Vojvodina, although dissatisfied for the same reason, still voted for the bill. Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS) MPs also voted against. The law envisages that the republic, province and local self-governments will be the property holders in Serbia, and they will own streets, squares, parks, municipal roads and uncategorized roads. The public property will include natural wealth, goods of common interest defined as the public property by the law, and assets used by bodies and organizations of the Republic of Serbia, provinces and local self-governments. These comprise waters, watercourses, mineral resources, groundwater, mineral deposits etc., and the law allows the state to give concessions for their exploitation, whereas the fee belongs to the republic, province or units of self-governments on whose territory the natural wealth is situated. The law regulates goods of common interest, such as woods, wood and water land, protected natural goods, public cultural goods and others. The Law on Public Property, restitution of property and indemnification, the civil and criminal procedure, protection of business secrets, railways, patents, and the amendments to the Law on Copyright and Related Rights are important for achieving the EU candidate status. Parliament adopts public property law

Alliance of Vojvodina Hungarians MPs did not support the law, being dissatisfied with the fact that the province did not get part of the railway infrastructure, whereas the League of Social Democrats of Vojvodina, although dissatisfied for the same reason, still voted for the bill.

Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS) MPs also voted against.

The Law on Public Property, restitution of property and indemnification, the civil and criminal procedure, protection of business secrets, railways, patents, and the amendments to the Law on Copyright and Related Rights are important for achieving the EU candidate status.
