Kosovo President Fatmir Sejdiu says that the province has "demonstrated that it is a home for all citizens, regardless of ethnicity or religion". In this annual address to the assembly in Pristina, Sejdiu said that the institutions of Kosovo had “proven to the citizens and international community that they are a serious partner and that Kosovo is an important factor for peace and stability.” Sejdiu makes annual address to assembly He said that those who breached public order and peace were “enemies of peace and a common and European future for the citizens of Kosovo, and they are in the service of those working against an independent Kosovo, that do not love democracy and do not love a pro-Western Kosovo.” Sejdiu said that Kosovo was eager for good neighborly relations with everyone, including Serbia, on condition that it abandoned its destructive policies and pressure on Kosovo. “The restoration of these relations is impossible until Serbia sponsors the parallel structures in the north of the country, where there are many individuals involved in criminal activity, who owe a great deal not only to the Kosovo people, but also to the peoples of the region, and, first and foremost, to justice,” the Kosovo president said. He said that he was thankful to Serb ministers, MPs and citizens that were working in the Kosovo institutions, in the face of constant pressure to quit or boycott. The president said that he supported the return of Serbs to the Kosovo police and called on Serbs, Kosovo citizens and their political organizations to “cooperate with the Kosovo institutions, and to integrate into a common political and civil life as soon as possible.” He said that the participation of Serbs in the municipal elections would be “one more very good step for everyone in Kosovo, but also a good message to the international community for a common future and perspective.” Sejdiu called on all displaced persons to return to their homes because “the Republic of Kosovo guarantees them a peaceful life and secure future.” He added that Kosovo’s admission to the International Monetary Fund and World Bank were very important achievements and should be used to stimulate economic development in Kosovo. “That is why the ministries and all other segments of the local and central government must step up their efforts to alleviate the effects of the economic crisis, particularly as the repercussions will inevitably impact on Kosovo,” Sejdiu said.
