According to unverified reports, violent protests started in the city of Benghazi, with about 2.000 people involved, BBC reported today. Eyewitnesses told BBC the overnight unrest followed the arrest of an outspoken critic of the government. Anti-government protests in Libya The lawyer was later said to have been released but the protests continued. Protesters threw stones at police, who was, according to the eyewitnesses, responded with water cannons, tear-gas and rubber bullets. Libyan government has not commented the Benghazi events so far.
