After the restoration of ten Serb homes in the Kosovo village of Rudice, near Klina, seven families interested in returning have arrived to the village. Since May, ten families have returned to the village and say that the return is going well so far. Serbs return to Kosovo village “We are getting along with the Albanians, we have no problems. I do not know how it will be later. We have electricity…we have water, everything is working—the well, pumps, water, bathrooms—everything that is important is working,” said Snezana Dasic, one of the returnees. The ten families that returned were previously living in collective centers for displaced persons in Serbia. They are currently living from welfare and social programs, and the UNDP, which built their homes, has promised food for six months. In this year’s phase of the return project, about 180 families are expected to return to Kosovo. The number is expected to increase in the next phase of return and integration. Kosovo Return Minister Sasa Rasic, said that an agreement for return and reintegration in Kosovo is expected to be signed by the end of the week in order to help another 200 families return to Kosovo next year. B92 talked to returnees from nearby villages, who said that the biggest problem is that there are no jobs, and that this is the main problem for Serbs who want to return. There are no available jobs in Rudice either, though the returnees have received three tractors for farm work. The children who have returned to Rudice will most likely have to attend schools that are about 15 kilometers away , located in nearby villages.
