Serbian police (MUP) said its officers arrested 51 persons in Belgrade on Wednesday, before and after the football derby in the capital. Partizan beat Red Star 2-0 in the derby of the country's prime football competition Jelen Superliga, and sealed the title for the season. Hooligans burn seats, clash with police Red Star fans reacted to the defeat by burning stadium seats, causing public disturbance, and attacking policemen and security, MUP said. There was violence ahead of the game, too, when Red Star supporters clashed with Gendarmerie (Zandarmerija) officers, "pelting them with various objects". The Gendarmes then proceeded to "intervene energetically", preventing major incidents. Police had to intervene once again after the derby to restore order at the stadium.
