The Court of Appeals in The Hague, Holland, has ruled that families of Srebrenica massacre victims cannot sue the UN before the Dutch courts. The ruling also states that they cannot request compensation. Families of Srebrenica victims can't sue United Nations Lawyers for the families have announced that they will now take the case before the Dutch Supreme Court , and the European Court of Justice if necessary. The explanation of today’s ruling reads that UN enjoys immunity in accordance with international conventions. The court’s decision has confirmed the ruling of the Hague District Court from 2008. About 8,000 Bosnian Muslims were killed in July 1995 in Srebrenica despite the presence of Dutch UN peacekeeping troops. The Association Mothers of Srebrenica intends to sue both the UN and the Netherlands.
