Dacic also asked why Serbian religious and cultural heritage has not been well protected until now.

"Instead Kosovo, in the presence of international forces, destroyed or damaged more than 200 churches, monasteries and other religious sites, more than 10,000 icons have been removed, stolen, even headstones are torn down. And we're supposed to believe there will be better protection, while at the same time religious calendars are printed presenting our (Serbian Orthodox) churches and monasteries as Albanian," Dacic said.

On Wednesday, the minister addressed the session of the General Conference of UNESCO and appealed on the organization to postpone the debate on Pristina's bid and "thus give a chance to dialogue."

Dacic also called on UNESCO to remain true to its original principles, retain moral credibility and not allowed to be politicized and abused.

In an interview with Radio Free Europe, Lunacek said that "Serbia lobbying against Kosovo" showed Serbia "does not want to protect its heritage, which is done by UNESCO."
