"Positive signals from EU as soon as possible"

Vucic and Kiska discussed the two countries' relations, economic cooperation and the support of Slovakia to Serbia's EU path.

Kiska underscored that Slovakia has to do more in order to help chapters in Serbia's EU accession talks open sooner.

Vucic informed Kiska about the reforms the Serbian government is implementing and expressed gratitude for Slovakia's support to Serbia on its EU path, the Serbian government said in a statement.

He underscored that the two countries' economic cooperation is positive but he added that there is still room for increase of mutual exchange.

During his stay in Slovakia, Vucic will confer with his Slovak counterpart Robert Fico and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Miroslav Lajcak.

Businesspeople "very welcome"

Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic stated in Bratislava late Wednesday he believes that Slovak businesspeople will find an additional interest in investing in Serbia where they are very welcome.

Vucic, who is paying a visit to Slovakia, thanked the country "for supporting Serbia in its policy towards Kosovo and Metohija and its path to the EU."

Slovakia is one of five EU member-states that have not recognized Kosovo.

"I believe in friendship, but I also believe in pure interest Slovak businessmen will have. I believe they will find their additional interest and desire to invest in Serbia. They are very welcome in our country," the PM told Serbia's state broadcaster RTS.

He said Serbia can offer "a number of benefits for investments, such as subsidies and employment of our good and educated workforce."

Vucic said the trade with Slovakia totaled EUR 397.2 billion in 2014, with Serbia recording a deficit, and voiced belief the volume of trade can be increased.
