Nikolić attends Battle of Kumanovo anniversary celebration

KUMANOVO Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic attended a central manifestation marking the 100th anniversary of the Battle of Kumanovo in Macedonia on Sunday. He said that the marking of the 100th anniversary of the Battle of Kumanovo was a message of peace and memory of a civilizational U-turn in the Balkans, Europe and the world. Serbia’s Prime Minister Ivica Dacic, Justice Minister Nikola Selakovic and Serbian parliament representatives Aleksandar Cotric and Milorad Stosic also attended the manifestation. Republic of Srpska (RS) President Milorad Dodik and Montnegro’s party New Serb Democracy leader Andrija Mandic are also expected to attend the celebration. The Serbian delegation laid wreaths at the monument to the Serbian army and Bishop Atanasije held a service to fallen soldiers. Representatives of the Macedonian government and numerous associations will also lay wreaths. Buses carrying thousands of citizens from Serbia, Montenegro, Macedonia and the RS arrived to Kumanovo on Sunday. The most important battle in the First Balkan War took place in the Kumanovo valley on October 23-24, 1912. The Serbian army defeated the powerful Ottoman troops and brought freedom to old medieval Serbian areas after more than five centuries. Serbia’s Prime Minister Ivica Dačić, Justice Minister Nikola Selaković and Serbian parliament representatives Aleksandar Čotrić and Milorad Stošić also attended the manifestation.

Republic of Srpska (RS) President Milorad Dodik and Montnegro’s party New Serb Democracy leader Andrija Mandić are also expected to attend the celebration.
