Progressives to request Novi Sad mayor’s dismissal

NOVI SAD Members of the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) Novi Sad Board will file a request for an extraordinary session of the city assembly on Tuesday. The Progressives will at the session request that Novi Sad Mayor Igor Pavlicic be dismissed. Progressives to request Novi Sad mayor’s dismissal Aside from 15 SNS councilors, the request will also be filed by six councilors of the Roma Democratic Party and three councilors of the Serbian Renewal Movement (SPO). The three parties signed a memorandum on joint political action in the Novi Sad city assembly on Saturday. The three SPO councilors decided on Saturday to leave the current ruling majority led by the Democratic Party (DS). Five councilors of the Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS) and six councilors of a group dubbed Novi Sad Now will also support the request. The parties and groups that support the request have a total of 35 seats in the assembly and they need at least 40 in order to secure the majority in the 78-seat assembly. The Progressives have called on the Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS) to leave the current ruling majority and form the new one with them. On the other hand, the current ruling coalition has 38 seats in the assembly – 15 councilors from the DS, 12 from the League of Social Democrats of Vojvodina (LSV), seven from the SPS and one from the Alliance of Vojvodina Hungarians (SVM). SNS acting leader Aleksandar Vucic said at the party's Main Board meeting on Sunday that new elections were possible if the Progressives did not agree with their coalition partners on the forming of coalitions on the local level. Aside from 15 SNS councilors, the request will also be filed by six councilors of the Roma Democratic Party and three councilors of the Serbian Renewal Movement (SPO). The three parties signed a memorandum on joint political action in the Novi Sad city assembly on Saturday.

The three SPO councilors decided on Saturday to leave the current ruling majority led by the Democratic Party (DS).
