Laws to introduce civil control of military

Defense chief Dragan Sutanovac says the new defense law will introduce democratic and civil control of the military. The defense minister said at a meeting of the Parliamentary Security and Defense Committee that civil and democratic control was being approached systematically for the first time. He said that he was expecting to hold a meeting with Interior Minister Dragan Jocic to discuss whether a special agency would need to be established for dealing with emergencies, as various services had had a hard time coordinating with each other when sent to regulate emergency situations. After discussing the Law on Defense, the Defense and Security Committee will also discuss the proposals for the Law on the Army and changes to the Law on the Security Services.
