Army builds new base near Bujanovac Once completed, Cepotin will provide for much better working and living conditions for the Serbian Army (VS) troops deployed along the ground security zone in the south of the country, and on the administrative boundary with Kosovo. The construction works at the base, located some five kilometers from Bujanovac, were halted two years ago due to a lack of money. Experts meanwhile warned that Serbia's forces deployed in the area are in need of such a facility. This was confirmed by Lt. Gen. Zdravko Ponos, the VS chief of staff, who toured Vranje at the end of June when he said that the army needed Cepotin to become functional due to it operational necessities. Serbia's south is secured by the army, regular police and MUP's prime unit, the Gendarmerie. The conditions in which the security personnel work in the area have come under criticism for a period of time.
