Wheat exports still on hold

August 20 will see a decision on exporting wheat locked in the customs procedure at the time the government imposed a ban on export. The ministries of agriculture and trade agreed that the goods already in the customs procedure when the decree on the temporary ban on wheat exports was adopted on August 3, should be delivered to the buyers abroad. The ban, set to last for three moths, has been introduced as the government’s reaction to the major shortage of goods that resulted from the draught that hit Serbia. Agriculture Minister Slobodan Milosavljevic said at the time that the government was forced to take the measure, necessary to relieve pressure on the prices of bread and meat, and secure stable supply of the basic agricultural products.
