Serbian salaries among region's highest

Average net wage in Macedonia stands at EUR 234, EUR 304 in Romania and EUR 202  in Bulgaria , while Croatia leads with a EUR 650 average net wage.

According to him, the fact that Serbia’s wages are among the region’s highest stems from the balance of payment (BOP) structure, rise in wages in the public sector, and the relative shift in criteria of consumer habits and needs.

Nikolić linked the growth in salaries with spending that is 20 percent higher than what the state economy generates in terms of gross domestic product.

“The rapid increase in exports that affects the growth of the BOP deficit is also responsible for the rise in salaries,” he explained.

In his opinion, Serbia needs to produce more than it spends, since the opposite trend is at work.
