The Croats and Slovenes must have been the first so-called "oppressed" people in history to enjoy a higher standard of living than their Serbian masters. What a joke.

The funny thing is that Serbia is in the best position long-term in the Balkans.

The West wants to use Serbia as a launchpad to dominate the Balkans economically- that is a large reason why the bombing in '99 took place- so the economy would be weakened to the point where the West could rebuild it on its own terms.

The second stage to the colonization process occurs when Serbs acheive a level of individual prosperity which is higher than the Croats and Slovenes- this is the West's way of attempting to control potential independent thought by the only nation in the Balkans which might have an independent economic policy.

Yugoslavia DID favour Slovenia and Croatia and they actually had the most to lose by its destruction- it will be funny when they realize this is the case and there is no turning back. Then they will have to blame themselves rather than the Serbs.

This is good news not only for Serbia but for peace in the Balkans. If Serbia had been the "economic leader in the Balkans" as falsely claimed by another comment, the break-up of the former Yugoslavia would have never happened. Slovenia and Croatia were the economic leaders as of today and that was actually their main reason to secede first in 1991 from the bankrupt economy of Serb-led Yugoslavia. Thank you.

I agree with you on certain levels, Canadian. The only one that I completely disagree with is where you comment that bush should find to a solution to KosovO. bush can't even find a solution to all that happens in the US. He unfortunately has become one that allows his friends (Scooter Libby) to get off literally scott-free & foot the bill to the other hard working people of the US. This is a disgrace & a tarnishment to many grave mistakes he's made over the course of both of his terms.

KosovO is Serbian territory. As the US is a super power in many ways, it does NOT govern the world. It's supposed to be part of collaborative team of politically correct persons to make a unilateral decision.

When it comes to KosovO, my feet stand firmly on it remaining an integral part of Serbia.
Thank you Canadian!

I am very happy that Serbia is prosperous again. After the war, I remember that a young journalist from Kragujevac, who is a good friend, who admitted easily all the atrocities committed, once told me that the dinar had no value, and that it was hard for him to earn his living and help his mother. His father had died when he was young.

«Tadic and kostunica need to set their egos».

I don't think it has to do with their ego; it's more with the fear they have of radicals across the nation. They know what happened to PM Dindic and they dont want to finish like him. I think that Tadic is manouevering well and I agree with him that all should take more time to discuss and negociate. There is no rush to achieve the independence of Kosovo.

Bush should put aside his ego, find a sustainable solution for Kosovo and allow Serbia to proper which would be good for Europe and even the US, since there is many US business interests in Serbia today.--(Canadien""

Creating prosperity is up to Serbs not Bush. Nobody is holding them back except themselves. Tadic and kostunica need to set their egos aside and let Kosova go.

GSP,

Another example is Coca-Cola who has reported sales of 700 Million in the region. Also GM is looking to partner with the Italians to revive the Serbian automobile plant. Many Technology firms from Japan have invested 100's of millions of dollars in recent years too. As soon as this nasty business about Kosovo is put to rest, Serbia should prosper and once again be the economic leader in the Balkans. The Kosovo issue is really stalling this success. Bush should put aside his ego, find a sustainable solution for Kosovo and allow Serbia to proper which would be good for Europe and even the US, since there is many US business interests in Serbia today.

Regardless of what many think - Serbia is still growing. US Steel (a US company) has invested a ton of money into an abandoned plant & it has prospered & given employment to many who have lost it & yielded a profit!

There's one good example of the economy growing - Bravo!!
