The Higher Court in Zrenjanin has found 38-old Sinisa Zlatic guilty of killing five people and wounding 22 others on July 2, 2016.

Mass shooter gets 40 years for killing 5 and wounding 22

Zlatic has the right to appeal against the first-instance verdict.

He stood trial accused of using an automatic rifle to fire a total of 26 bullets, and kill his wife Dijana Zlatic - who was in the process of divorcing him - as well as Steva Jojic, Vladimir Mijatovic, Jovan Popovic, and Vladimir Kosovic.

The defendant stood trial charged with acts of aggravated murder, and two counts of illegal possession and carrying of weapons and explosives.

Investigators found an automatic rifle, a semi-automatic rifle, and ammunition in the attic of his home.

Zlatic remains incarcerated. A court-appointed attorney was representing him in the trial.
