Five people suspected of participating in the July 29 violence in Belgrade have been remanded in custody for 30 days. Ana Milosevic, a spokeswoman at the First Municipal Court in Belgrade, said that investigations had been launched on Sunday against Nikola Gajic, Nikola Ristic, Zoran Miskovic, Marko Lukic, and Dusan Ososflija, on suspicion that they were part of a group of hooligans that attacked police officers during the protest against the arrest of Radovan Karadzic on July 29. Five remanded in custody over riots The crimes they are suspected of, if found guilty, carry sentences of between three months and five years in prison. The state public prosecutor stated on Saturday that nine people had been arrested over the violence that broke out during the protests in central Belgrade. During the protest in Republic Square organized by the Serb Radical Party, groups of hooligans clashed with police in a number of locations around the city center. In the clashes, according to Interior Minister Ivica Dacic, 81 people were injured, of whom 57 were police officers.
