The trial for war crimes committed at the Ovcara Farm in 1999 has been pushed back to January 21. The court was informed that one of the defendants, Nada Kalaba, who is taking very strong sedatives, is unable to follow the trial in court. Ovcara Farm trial adjourned Court President Vesko Krstajic said that he had talked with Dr. Nada Jankovic from the Institute for Neuro-Psychiatry, who had told him that the sedative therapy that Kalaba was taking could induce a chance in mental capabilities. Jankovic, who consulted colleagues from the institute, said that the treatment Kalaba was undergoing in the prison hospital “makes her unable to participate in the court process.” Judge Krstajic stated that a neuro-psychiatrist from Belgrade District Prison, Gordana Petrovic, had informed him that Kalaba had received her medication today and that she was unable to follow court proceedings. After talking with Jankovic, the trial chamber decided that the trial should be adjourned until January, when it will be determined whether Kalaba should be tried separately. The Ovcara Farm trial began in March after the Supreme Court abolished the first instance ruling of the Belgrade District Court’s War Crimes Chamber. It then restarted for a third time after the members of the trial chamber were changed in early October.
