Panasonic consumer electronics maker will start production in its new plant in the Serbian town of Svilajnac in early 2011. This is according to Deputy Municipal President Predrag Milanovic, who also stated that the Japanese multinational company's local plant will employ first workers as soon as in early December. Panasonic to start Serbia production The factory covers 2,250 square meters, and it will at first have 60 workers. "In the following period, Panasonic will not only employ workers, but will also sign an agreement on the lease of land and the construction of a new factory the size of 18,000 sq meters which will employ about 350 workers," Milanovic said. For their part, Panasonic said on Wednesday that they had set up a company for the production of energy-efficient electronic devices for lighting fixtures in Serbia, with the seat in Svilajnac, in which the volume production will begin in January 2011. The new company will be named Panasonic Electric Works Vossloh-Schwabe Serbia d.o.o., a statement read.
