Serbia's industrial output was up by 2.6 percent in September 2010 compared to 2009 and by 12.1 percent compared to the 2009 average. A growth of 4.4 percent was recorded in the first nine months of this year compared to the same period last year, the state Statistical Office announced on Friday. Industrial production up by 2.6 pct. Ore and stone extraction was up by 21.3 percent, processing industry output grew by 3.1 percent, while the production and distribution of electric energy, gas and water dropped by 6.1 percent in September 2010 compared to a year ago. Output of intermediary products, with the exception of energy, jumped by 7.8 percent, mass-produced consumables by 5.3 percent, and energy by 2.2 percent. Drops were recorded in capital goods (28.7 percent) and mass-produced durable goods (6.8 percent). In September, industrial output went up in 16 areas, which make up 64 percent of the total industrial production, and dropped in 13 sectors responsible for the remaining 36 percent. The biggest contributors to industrial growth in the first nine months of 2010 were base metals, chemical and chemical products industries, crude oil and gas extraction and the food and beverage industry.
