Russia's minister for emergency situations, due in Belgrade on Wednesday, wants urgent meetings with senior Serbian officials. Beta understands that Sergei Shoigu, who is also the co-chairman of the Russo-Serbian Mixed Committee, has asked for separate meetings with President Boris Tadic, Economy Minister Mladjan Dinkic, and Interior Minister Ivica Dacic. The magazine states that the reason for the minister’s visit is the delay in ratifying the said agreement. The Russian delegation will attempt to clarify the nature and plans of the Serbian government concerning the energy agreement, given its most recent moves, writes ekonomist. The Russian side, it states, wonders whether the “pronounced atmosphere of doubt” over the energy agreement and the lack of encouragement or urgency on an issue that, in their view, is “strategically invaluable” for Serbia, is masking Belgrade’s intention to scrap the contract and seek another partner.
