Russian investors are interested in purchasing Jat Airways, cooperation with Nikola Tesla Airport and the Djerdap hydro-electric plant, and other projects. Cooperation between Serbia and Russia has improved in recent months, helped to no small degree by the energy agreement between Serbia and Russia, said Russian Ambassador to Belgrade Aleksandr Konuzin. Russians eyeing new opportunities in Serbia According to Konuzin, implementation of the energy agreement will create 100,000 new jobs, and bring some USD 200mn worth of new transit revenue. Serbia would become a significant player in the energy industry as it would be a transit country for oil heading to the EU, he stressed, adding that Russia was ready to begin laying the groundwork for pipeline construction, and that all that was required now was ratification of the agreement in the Serbian parliament. The ambassador said that Russia was also keen to establish cooperation between Moscow’s Sheremetevo Airport and Nikola Tesla Airport in Belgrade, while there was also an interest in investing in the construction of river ports. Moscow Bank is shortly due to complete formal procedures for entering the Serbian market, while there also is interest in other investment in that sector, he said. Konuzin said that a delegation of Russian businessman would soon be visiting Serbia to assess the list of companies next up for privatization, while Russia was also considering importing fruit and vegetables from Serbia. “The potential for cooperation between Russia and Serbia is huge, but a positive atmosphere needs to be created between the two countries,” the ambassador stressed.
