The National Bank of Serbia (NBS) will issue a new series of banknotes with improved design and new features to combat forgery.

The National Bank of Serbia (NBS) will issue a new series of banknotes with improved design and new features to combat forgery. A statement says that nine denominations are concerned – RSD 10, 20, 50, 100, 200, 500, 1000, 2000 and 5000 banknotes. NBS to issue new banknote series The design of the new notes will require a complex and lengthy procedure to be carried out in several stages, and will take at least two years. The NBS will decide when and if to begin printing and releasing the new series of notes into circulation, after choosing a suitable design, to be decided in a competition. The competition, it has been announced, will open at the end of December 2007, and all Serbian citizens will have the right to participate. The National Bank will hold an exhibition of the entries, and the winner will be selected via a public vote.
