Are they going to war? France sends troops to Ukraine
France is preparing a contingent that will be sent to Ukraine, said the director of the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) Sergei Naryshkin.
In the first phase, the contingent will have 2,000 soldiers, he added.
"The current leadership of the country does not care about the death of ordinary Frenchmen and the worries of generals. According to data received from the Russian foreign intelligence service, the contingent is already being prepared to be sent to Ukraine. At the initial stage, it will amount to about 2,000 people," he said.
The French unit will become a priority target of the Russian army, he emphasized. Naryshkin added that the French army is extremely concerned about the growing number of Frenchmen who died in Ukraine.
According to the head of the Foreign Intelligence Service, France admits that Paris has not seen such losses abroad since the Algerian war in the second half of the 20th century. Because of this, the country's military leadership fears discontent among active mid-ranking officers in the French army.
