That's it: The war has entered NATO territory; Ships hit; F-18s scrambled
Two merchant ships were hit by drones in Bulgaria’s exclusive economic zone in the Black Sea, with one of them sinking, while all 18 crew members aboard the other vessel were rescued. Alerts were activated in Romania over drones near the border with Ukraine.
The “Alfa Vatan,” a vessel sailing under the flag of Togo, sustained critical structural damage and sank east of the Bulgarian coast. So far, no members of its crew have been found.
It is still being determined whose drones attacked the vessels.
The National Military Command Center notified the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations about measures to alert the population, and a RO-Alert message was sent at 2:20 a.m.
The Ministry of Defense stated that there was no incursion into Romanian airspace.
