“Ukraine is committed to fully regulating the educational, linguistic, cultural and political rights of the Hungarian minority, which consists of 100,000 people in Zakarpattia,” the Hungarian prime minister wrote on his Facebook page, as reported by the portal Hirado.hu.

The post states that the agreement is the result of weeks of intensive Hungarian-Ukrainian negotiations at the expert level, involving political organizations of the Hungarian community in Zakarpattia, as well as churches.

“I am very pleased to announce, on the eve of National Unity Day, that the Ukrainian government has committed to soon implementing the agreed measures into its legal system,” Magyar said.

He added that Ukraine’s obligations will also be included in its action plan toward the European Union, and if that happens, the Hungarian government will contribute to opening the first accession cluster for Ukraine, although Hungary still does not support accelerated EU accession talks for Ukraine.

In his post, Magyar emphasized that the new Hungarian government achieved in three weeks what Viktor Orbán’s government had been unable to achieve for years.
