French President Emmanuel Macron said today that the situation regarding hantavirus in France is under control.

“The government made the right decisions, the situation is under control,” Emmanuel Macron said from Kenya, where he is on an official visit, according to BFM TV.

He also praised the adopted protocol, stating that France had responded in a very strict and systematic manner.

“The best experts were consulted, and France adopted a very rigorous protocol, taking into account all known scientific data,” Macron said.

He added that this is a known virus, different from COVID-19.

“The situation is under control, and what is important now is for the World Health Organization (WHO) to coordinate everything properly. Mobilization, caution, and strict standards are needed,” the French president said.

Earlier today, French Health Minister Stéphanie Rist stated that there is no evidence indicating widespread circulation of hantavirus across French national territory.

She dismissed the possibility of widespread circulation of hantavirus in the country, emphasizing that among the five French citizens who had been aboard the ship MV Hondius, one infected woman remains in serious condition and in intensive care.

The deadly hantavirus outbreak occurred on the Dutch cruise ship MV Hondius in April this year while it was traveling from Argentina to Cape Verde, and the World Health Organization confirmed seven infection cases and three deaths.
