“Europe must be part of the race to harness space,” French President Emmanuel Macron said at the opening of the summit, adding that all countries should benefit from space exploration.

Modi: “Responsibility for the situation in space should be collective”

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said India is one of the leaders in space exploration, noting that more than 430 satellites from 34 countries have been launched into space on Indian rockets. He added that responsibility for the situation in space, where orbits are becoming increasingly crowded with satellites and ever more powerful technology, should be collective.

Speaking at the International Space Summit, being held at the Grand Palais in Paris at the initiative of French President Emmanuel Macron, Modi said the choices countries make today regarding space “must be clear — cooperation instead of confrontation, and sustainability.”

He said India’s philosophy and approach to space exploration is focused on considering long-term benefits for everyone rather than “short-term gains,” under the motto “One Earth, One Family, One Future.”

“We support a safe, secure, peaceful and sustainable space domain, grounded in international law, dialogue and multilateral cooperation. Scientific data must serve the common good, with openness and integrity. India’s space journey reflects this philosophy. The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), at the heart of this journey, has earned global admiration,” Modi said.

Modi added that ISRO’s achievements benefit everyone, including farmers and fishermen, “whether it is forecasting, disaster management or navigation.”
