In a post on the social network X, Zelensky said that the missiles, referred to as “Flamingo,” traveled more than 1,500 kilometers and struck a factory that, according to him, produces components for Russia’s military industry, including equipment for the navy, aviation, and armored vehicles.

He described such strikes as a “just response” to Russian attacks on Ukraine and reiterated his call for Moscow to end the war and turn to diplomacy.

“Russia must end its war and turn to real diplomacy. We have clearly presented our proposal. Glory to Ukraine,” Zelensky said.

This is only part of a mass attack on Russian territory, and one city was targeted three times. The Prime Minister of the Chuvash Republic, Sergey Artamonov, stated that the authorities are considering declaring a state of emergency in the region.

One of the largest oil refineries in Russia

According to industry sources, the KINEF refinery, one of the largest in the country, processed 17.5 million metric tons of oil in 2024 (350,000 barrels per day), which accounts for 6.6% of Russia’s total oil refining output. It produced 2 million tons of gasoline, 7.1 million tons of diesel, 6.1 million tons of fuel oil, and 600,000 tons of bitumen.

The Russian Ministry of Defence said that air defence systems destroyed 289 Ukrainian drones overnight over Russian regions.

Third wave of attacks on a Russian city: “It was Flamingo”

The Kyiv Independent reports, citing Russian Telegram channels, that Ukrainian forces launched a large-scale overnight attack on May 5 using missiles and drones against several Russian regions, and allegedly struck important facilities of the Russian military-industrial complex.

Total panic in Moscow

Russia’s capital is preparing for Victory Day celebrations in complete fear. Due to possible Ukrainian attacks, expensive systems will not be displayed. Moscow has also threatened to destroy Kyiv if even a single drone hits Moscow during the military parade.

Ukrainian drones carried out three waves of attacks on the city of Cheboksary, the capital of the Chuvash Republic in Russia. The first two waves took place during the night, targeting a nearby refinery, while the third strike occurred at 10 a.m.

One of the drones crashed into a residential building, where a fire broke out on the sixth floor, damaging at least eight apartments. One person was killed and 12 were injured. Residents were evacuated, and all emergency services were on the scene, according to The Moscow Times.

Photos and videos posted by local residents on social media allegedly show a large fire coming from JSC VNIIR-Progress in Cheboksary, a Russian state institute that produces components for high-precision weapons used by Moscow in its attacks on Ukraine.

Explosions were heard in the area of the facility following an air alert that warned of a missile threat in the region. Russian Telegram channels reported that the Ukrainian FP-5 “Flamingo” cruise missile hit the facility. Residents later saw Ukrainian drones striking the plant again around 7:30 a.m. local time.

Sirens 2,000 km from the border

According to The Kyiv Independent, these attacks are part of a broader wave of strikes across various Russian regions, with explosions also reported in occupied Crimea, as well as in the cities of Voronezh and Kazan.

Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin also said that five drones were shot down while approaching the Russian capital.

At least 18 Russian airports issued temporary flight bans due to incoming Ukrainian missiles, while air alerts were declared in regions located up to 2,000 km from the Russia–Ukraine border.
