“Heavily armed U.S. Capitol Police officers are rushing to a reported shooting near a high-ranking U.S. government official at the Washington Navy Yard,” he wrote.

Sortor noted that U.S. Capitol Police were hurrying to the scene. He added that a black SUV seen in the footage was an armored Chevrolet Suburban used by members of Congress and cabinet officials. Sortor further reported that it remains “unclear” whether the attack was targeted.

The alleged shooter has not yet been apprehended, and police are searching the area.

“I personally witnessed that official being EXTRACTED by plainclothes Capitol Police agents, protected by uniformed officers carrying long rifles. I will not name the official without their explicit permission, as I do not want to reveal their location. Other officers can be seen searching the area for evidence such as shell casings,” Sortor added.

The Washington Metropolitan Police Department and the U.S. Capitol Police have not yet commented on the incident.
