Urgent warning for Serbs in Cyprus: The Embassy issues a statement
The Embassy of the Republic of Serbia in Cyprus has issued an official statement advising Serbian citizens to postpone all travel to Cyprus in the coming period that is not absolutely necessary.
This warning comes amid rising tensions and developments in the security situation following Iran’s response to the attack by Israel and the United States.
As stated in the Embassy’s announcement, the territory of the Republic of Cyprus was not the target of direct attacks; rather, the sovereign British base of Akrotiri was targeted.
“Cypriot authorities have introduced enhanced preventive security measures, particularly in airport areas and around critical infrastructure, and are in constant communication with representatives of the British authorities,” the statement said.
Possible disruptions to air traffic
However, due to the current regional developments, disruptions to air traffic are possible, including changes to flight schedules, delays, or cancellations of certain flights.
Citizens planning to travel to the Republic of Cyprus are advised to:
-
Regularly monitor travel advisories for the Republic of Cyprus on the official website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia and the website of the Embassy;
-
Follow official announcements of the competent institutions of the Republic of Cyprus and act in accordance with their instructions; before departure, check the status of their flight with their airlines, which independently decide whether to operate flights;
-
Comply with instructions issued by local authorities;
-
Ensure they have adequate travel and health insurance.
It is also emphasized once again at the end that, in the coming period, travel that is not absolutely necessary should be postponed.
“The Embassy will continue to monitor the situation and provide timely information on all relevant circumstances,” the statement concludes.
