The outer display board of the North Korean embassy, seen on Friday by the South Korean news agency Yonhap, featured 25 photographs of the North Korean leader’s activities, including a large central image showing Kim alongside his daughter, believed to be in her early teens.

In the central photo, they are depicted attending a New Year’s event in Pyongyang together, with a caption in Chinese stating that Kim is sending New Year’s blessings to the people, without mentioning Kim Ju Ae.

Previously, the North Korean embassy in Beijing displayed images of Kim, sometimes alongside Chinese President Xi Jinping, but this is the first time a photograph of him with his daughter has been placed at the center of attention.

Some of the photos also show Kim Ju Ae with her father, including their presence at the inauguration of the Wonsan-Kalma beach resort last June.

Yonhap considers the display of these images significant, as Seoul’s intelligence agency assessed on Thursday that Kim Ju Ae is in the process of being designated as Kim’s successor.

North Korea has so far not confirmed the daughter’s name or her official status.

It is also unclear when the new photos were posted on the embassy board. Yonhap notes that the North Korean embassy in Beijing typically changes the display two to three times a year, often highlighting Kim’s meetings with Chinese President Xi Jinping to emphasize the friendship between the two nations.
