Who stays, and who goes? Only 150 people are allowed to cross per day
After security checks, only about 150 Palestinians per day will be able to leave Gaza via the Rafah crossing, while 50 will be allowed to enter the Strip, Al Jazeera reported, citing local sources.
As reported, the European Union Border Assistance Mission (EUBAM), which will manage the Palestinian side of the crossing, will submit to the Egyptian side, according to the agreement, a list of names of people wishing to leave Gaza, along with their final destinations, for security checks.
Similarly, the Egyptians would submit a list of 50 names of Palestinians who wish to enter, and who will be allowed entry the next day after security checks, reports say.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu previously announced that 50 Gaza residents per day would be allowed to enter the Strip, along with family members, while there would be no restrictions on exiting, according to the Times of Israel.
According to the Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT), around 42,000 Gaza residents have left the Gaza Strip during the war, mostly patients seeking treatment abroad or people with dual citizenship.
