They listed the city of Davao as their final destination in the country, which is known for the activity of Islamist militants in the impoverished areas of central and southwestern Mindanao province, according to the BBC.

The Philippine military stated that it cannot confirm reports that the two received "military training" while in the country, the British public broadcaster adds.
