"War is coming": Orbán announces fateful days for Europe

In the coming days, it will be decided whether the war between Russia and Ukraine will further spread toward Europe or whether “the embers of war will be extinguished forever,” Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said today.

“If the important negotiations between the United States and Russia are successful, the embers of the war will die down and people in Hungary will be able to breathe more easily. However, if the will of the Europeans prevails—those who believe the war should continue and be resolved on the battlefield rather than by seeking peace—the war could spread closer and the threat will grow,” Orbán said, as reported by MTI.

The Hungarian prime minister stated last week that the post-war order should include transforming Ukraine into a buffer state between NATO and Russia.

He said that the West has armed Ukraine, has de facto integrated it into NATO structures, and intends to make it a de jure NATO member as well.

Orbán also argued that time is on Russia’s side and added that the longer it takes to reach peace, the more territory and human lives Ukraine will lose.

He also said that those who have power negotiate, while those who do not merely talk, Magyar Nemzet reported.

“Russians and Americans are negotiating, while Europeans are excluded from the talks—they prefer to just talk,” Orbán said.

According to him, we are in a dangerous moment, but have in fact been in such a “moment” continuously for the past four years.

“There have been differences at various stages. However, the coming days will determine whether the war will move closer to Europe or whether the flames of war will be extinguished. If the Russian-American negotiations are successful, the flames will be smaller. We will not be out of danger, but the risk will be lower. If the will of the Europeans prevails, the war could come closer to us and the threat of war could increase,” Orbán said.
