Charlie Kirk died after being shot
Charlie Kirk died after being shot today at an outdoor event at the University of Utah.
The news was confirmed by US President Donald Trump on the "Truth Social" network.
"The Great, and even Legendary, Charlie Kirk, is dead. No one understood or had the Heart of the Youth in the United States of America better than Charlie. He was loved and admired by ALL, especially me, and now, he is no longer with us. Melania and my Sympathies go out to his beautiful wife Erika, and family. Charlie, we love you!" Trump said.
Kirk was shot today while giving an open-air speech at Utah Valley University. It was one of the series of public debates for which he was known, which is called "Prove me wrong".
A large number of students attended the gathering, when at one point a shot was heard.
Based on footage posted on social media, Kirk can be seen being hit in the neck by a bullet and bleeding profusely as he falls to the ground. After that, the crowd started screaming and running away.
American media reported that he was accompanied by personal security.
He was taken to a hospital, and the AP initially reported that he was in critical condition.
Trump previously, as the US media recalls, praised Kirk as key to his gains among young voters in last year's presidential election.
