Chasiv Yar is located west of Bakhmut, which was captured by Russia in 2023 after one of the bloodiest battles of the war.

Why is this city important?

The city is located at an altitude above the plain, which gives it a good position for surveillance and artillery fire towards key cities such as Kramatorsk, Kostyantinvka and Slovyansk. It is located on the way of the "entrance" to the very core of the Donetsk region, many call it the "door of Donbass".

The control of key roads is also important, because the main traffic routes to Kramatorsk and other cities can be attacked from Chasiv Yar.

It is positioned between Bakhmut and Kramatorsk and became the main supply point for Ukrainian forces after the fall of Bakhmut.
